The WESA Knockabout Returns!

WESA, the Seattle area’s squash + education program, supports economically disadvantaged students with academic, squash and personal coaching to help each student succeed.  On October 16th, we will hold our annual fundraising tournament, and we invite you to participate.

The Knockabout is a combination tournament and celebration.  The squash portion is a one-day, round-robin tournament.  Accompanying the tournament are food, drink, music, and a chance to celebrate the hard work of our WESA scholars.

WESA is one of 20+ urban squash programs across the country.  Starting with students in elementary school, WESA provides a program of squash instruction and coaching, academic tutoring, and community service to Seattle Public School students from disadvantaged backgrounds.  The goal is simple: personal development with a clear path to post-secondary school and career success.  Students commit to 7+ years of extra academics and hard work on the squash court.  The self-discipline required in squash carries over to their academic and community service work, and they realize success both on and off the court.

The urban squash movement is now 25 years old, and its success is extraordinary.  Of the thousands of participating students from historically underserved communities, more than 95% have gone on to college, and their college graduation rate is far above average.  Although many of them become excellent squash players, the real goal is personal growth.  Through WESA, our students experience a world they would not otherwise see and develop the skills and confidence to negotiate it successfully.

Anyone is welcome to join a team for the Knockabout.  You can be a playing team member and participate in the tournament in October or a non-playing member helping to support WESA and joining us for the party on October 16th.  All team members commit to helping raise funds for WESA.

Celebrate our collective return to squash after the pandemic-enforced hiatus, and help a great program supporting an outstanding group of hard-working students!
